The Republicans came out with both barrels firing. Senator Jeff Sessions said, “Judge Sotomayor has said that she accepts that her opinions, sympathies, and prejudices will affect her rulings. Judge Sotomayor’s empathy for one group of firefighters turned out to be prejudice against the others.” Even Lindsey Graham took a couple of shots attacking her wellknown “empathy” for certain groups. As for the Democrats, their stupidity was on full parade. Al Franken made the absurd statement that Sotomayor is “the most experienced nominee in 100 years.” Pat Leahy asserted that Sotomayor’s disadvantaged upbringing meant she had no exposure to “the classics” as a child. He created this fiction even though it’s a well-known fact that Sotomayor attended a very prestigious private high school. The direct questioning starts today.
